The salt marshes, a preserved tradition on the Rétaise

Today, around a hundred salt workers still harvest salt every summer from over 500 hectares of cultivated marshes.
Along the paths, you'll undoubtedly come across carnations filled with sparkling water, wooden huts, and perhaps even a few workers harvesting.
Far from the hustle and bustle, this walk is an immersion in a living heritage, combining unspoiled nature and ancestral know-how.

A peaceful loop between Loix and La Couarde-sur-Mer

From Le Bois-Plage, head to La Couarde-sur-Mer and then the charming port of Loix. The trail winds through the marshes to the Pointe du Grouin.
There, the sea meets the salt pans in an almost surreal setting. This 1-hour 15-minute walk (approximately 19 km) combines beaches, marshes, and small seaside villages.

Around the Fier d'Ars: White Gold and Birds

For the more curious, extend the walk to Ars-en-Ré and the Fier d'Ars, a large expanse of salt water and a true sanctuary for migratory birds.
Along the way, stop at the Maison du Fier to discover the richness of the Lilleau des Niges Nature Reserve.
The salt marshes are not only beautiful: they are vibrant, precious, and the heart of the Île de Ré. Let yourself be carried away by their magic by bike!
